Chip Carved Collection
What is chip-carving?
Typically a wood working technique, chip-carving is the process of repeatedly cutting on a material’s edge with a knife to create a repeated ‘V’ pattern. Best known for its prevalence within Tramp Art of the 1800s - this handicraft is one of skill, shared knowledge and resourcefulness. Wooden artworks were often created using discarded cigar or fruit boxes and a simple pocket knife.

How are lamp bases built?
Building with stiff clay slabs takes care and precision. Each lamp base is built of many parts, all working together in creating a three dimensional form.
In true Tramp Art fashion + our own ceramic twist - descending slabs of clay are stacked to build layered, symmetrical, geometric beauties.
